Why I Just Cancelled My Julep Subscription

I love trying new things and new colors. I like having nail polish to go with every outfit. So Julep seemed like the perfect way for me to try new colors and add to my collection of options.

The best thing that every one who subscribed to Julep told me about the service is that because they know you have so many colors already and might not like enough of the colors every month you can skip any month you don't want it and still maintain your subscription. Well, that apparently just changed.

From the Julep blog a few days ago:

However, in order to make sure that we’re never out of stock on the fabulous new product offerings coming to Maven, we’re simplifying the skip feature for our new Mavens.  Starting with the February Maven Box, new Mavens will have flexibility to earn a skip every six months. And, of course, if you’re currently a Maven who joined before December 18, 2013, you are “grandmothered” in to the original terms with no changes to your skip options.

How lovely for them to "simplify" for us new mavens but It doesn't make sense to buy nail polish for $40 for a couple months just in case on the third month they have a shade I like.

I am really happy for those who get "grandmothered" but for those of us that are new but also have a lot of polish already this doesn't feel like we're getting as good of a deal .

Here's a sampling of some Mavens on Makeup Talk :

I'm really happy I'm already a maven. I don't think I'd be staying around much longer otherwise. That's one of the reasons I'm with Julep anyway, because it's so easy to skip!

I've skipped almost every month since about June.  The only reason I haven't cancelled is because you have to call to cancel.  I wish they had a "cancel" button.  I guess I won't be canceling my subscription now though.  Like others, I prefer having the ability to skip a month whenever I want to having to "earn" a skip.

I'm surprised they allowed current mavens to keep the skip feature but I'm glad they did that other I would cancel for sure.  The skip feature was a major selling factor for me.

Gee, it doesn't seem like they appreciate that they don't get to have the more simplified experience. So what do you think? Are you less likely to join now knowing this?

    1. It's brand new and so disappointing but there are so many more ways to get nail polish that It's not a big deal. Just people should be aware of these changes since right now its still being promoted everywhere that you can skip months but you cant.

  2. interesting. I love their packaging and wanted to try the products.
I'd not have access to the subscription. The products are still good right?

    1. Personally, I've tried two colors now and they both peel off my fingers. The first time I thought I must have done something wrong but the second time I did Julep on my accent nails and another brand on my other nails and the Julep ones came off and the other color stayed on. That's fine if your looking for just a really quick look for a 2 hour event and it's a color you cant get anywhere else. But for just a grey or deep purple polish color I could get it somewhere else that will actually stay on my nails I would skip that month..oh wait I cant.

  3. WOW! I just considering signing up, but now I definitely won't! I am not a fan of autoships anyway, but I do like to have control if I choose one.

    1. Yeah, the only control you have is if you spent $120 on nail polish you "earned" a skip. Of course for others it will be $0 and they don't 'need to "earn" the colors they like.

    1. If anyone joins now they should do it knowing that their Julep experience is a totally different experience than everyone else.
